Information for Sleep Professionals

Thank you for showing interest in referring your patients to our practice. Gillespie Dentistry has been treating patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) for over 15 years now and continues to make it an important part of our overall patient care. We take the time to screen each new dental patient that comes into our office for possible signs of OSA and other sleep disorders and refer them to a medical professional when appropriate.

I have a passion for treating patients with OSA because I personally experienced the success of treatment with an oral appliance. It improved my wife’s and my life so much in a very short amount of time, and it gives me great satisfaction to help patients in the same way.

I spend most of my continuing education training on the treatment of OSA with Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) so that I can better improve the outcomes for those patients referred to me. That training also includes recognizing the many other factors that contribute to sleep-disordered breathing and how to properly manage the side effects that may arise from OAT.

While there are many different types of Oral Appliances available to treat OSA, I look to use the most comfortable and long-lasting for patients. I constantly evaluate the performance and longevity of the appliances I make for patients and integrate newer and better options when they arise.

When you refer a patient to me, I will spend the first visit exploring their concerns, evaluating health problems, educating them about all treatment options for OSA, and screening them for eligibility for an oral appliance. When the patient consents to treatment, we will proceed with fabricating the custom-made oral appliance and beginning titration. For at least 3 months, I will use remote and in-office visits to help the patient reach optimal jaw position that increases oxygen flow and decreases AHI.

Thank you for the opportunity to help our mutual patients. Please do not hesitate to contact me in any way concerning patient care or to get more information about our practice.
